Backtracking 2009: Part I

Ok, so a new year has come. During this time, there's an online forum in TipidPC.com that I normally go into: The New Nikon D40 Thread. I interact with fellow Nikon D40 users, some of which have already upgraded to higher models. Hmm... wonder why it's called "New?" Don't ask. Too controversial. LOL

So the group held some "photowalks" where we'll just meet up and shoot pretty much anywhere we would want to. The most notable photowalk we did was when we went to Manila American Cemetery or sometimes called as American War Memorial. It is situated at Fort Bonifacio, fronting the social place aptly called as The Fort. This is where I met most of my friends now in this craft.

Here's a couple of shots I took from that photowalk...

Backtracking: 2008 - Part II

By the way, before I had this camera, I've been a avid attendee of car shows. haha! I would take pictures (of the cars, really) using my rusty yet trusty Nokia N70 camphone, and sometimes would borrow someone else's digicam. Here are some of my old takes from the previous carshows I attended...

Lancer Evo X - 2nd CAMPI Int'l Motor Show

Audi R8 - 2nd CAMPI Int'l Motor Show

Kathy San Jose - 2nd CAMPI Int'l Motor Show

Late this year I decided to get me an external flash: a Nissin Di622. A lot of people have been telling me to get the Nikon Speedlight SB600 instead, but that one is way outta my budget! Moreso, I told them and myself that I don't plan on strobing just yet, so the Di622 should suffice. Without not much of understanding how to effectively use a flash, I still went on and shoot and shoot... until I'm able to get a grip on how it works, on what's the best angle to position the head, etc. Anyway, I was always on TTL mode then so it was fairly easy for me. hehe.

Backtracking: 2008 - Part I

Moving on with the back tracking, let me take you to the time I first decided to jump in to the world of photography: the time I acquired myself a Nikon D40 DSLR, circa August 2008 (Hmm, come to think of it... it was actually a birthday gift for myself! Didn't think of it before! haha!). I was with zero knowledge in photography back then. Nada. Zilch. The camera was always on Auto mode. I'm using it only as a point-and-shoot camera. At that time, the only reason why I'm after a DSLR is the known quality of images it can produce (to which a lot of high-end PnS cams nowadays is capable of).

Alright, so while on Auto mode, I shoot here and there... here are some snaps I took...

Gumamela from our frontyard

Shot along Roxas Blvd.

Taken at Bonifacio High Street

I even told a friend of mine who's been shooting with his D40 months ahead of me, that I think I'm already contented using my camera on Auto mode. I can produce the shots that I want... well, that's something you would hear from a totally noob guy. hehehe...

Backtracking: 2006 - Palawan Trip

Ok, since I just recently signed up for this blog, pretty much the only way to fill this up is to take a blast from the past. So let me back track to the time I somewhat got enlightened that photography may have some future in me... or rather the other way around. LOL.

Our team at work won the 2nd place from an internal competition set by the management, and the prize is an all-expense paid trip and accommodation to Palawan. Yey! As mentioned from my previous blog, I never had a digicam of my own. So I borrowed my auntie's Canon A410 3.2MP digicam during this trip.

Here are some of my snaps back then...

My friends and family thought that I have an 'eye' for photography upon seeing how I can come up with these outputs... and I am glad to have come up with such impression. They're not the best images out there, but with zero knowledge about photography composition and with just a measely digicam, I was able to produce shots photos.

Lemme introduce myself then!

Whoa! I almost forgot! What better way to start off this blogging but to get myself introduced, right? I mean, people might be checking out this blog site and asks "who the heck is this?" LOL! So here are some little bits about me...

I am a city boy. A Manila boy. I was born in Sampaloc, Manila where my family used to live in, until 5 years later we transferred to ParaƱaque where I am currently residing in. In college, I took up the course of BS Architecture in FEU, and spent 6 years finishing it. Why 6 years? The course is outlined for 5 years, but I deliberately left the Thesis subjects for the 6th year. After graduating, I was able to work and practice that profession a little bit, for roughly just 5 months working for a Home Theater design company (actually the company sells high-end audio/video stuff but the design and construction of home theaters come bundled with it). Cool job. Sucky boss. LOL!

After then I tried myself getting in to the call center world. Since I am also a technically-inclined person, doing Technical Support was somewhat a breeze... until the calls itself have started to become nasty and, well, tiring. I was able to work for 2 call center companies in the span of 5 and a half years (yeah once an agent, always an agent. LOL). Now I work in a Cloud Computing Software company (oooohh cozy! LOL), but since I am on a customer-facing position, the work is much like a call center, but 100% less stressful! The product itself can make you bleed in all the wrong places, but eventually once you get the hang of it, it'll be a smooth ride. Not to mention a very favorable pay. hehehe...

So... you must be asking... why Photography? I never really thought in the past that I'll be doing this, but thinking back in High School, I am fond of borrowing my aunt's (film) camera and take a lot of pics with friends. Come 2006 when we went for a trip to Palawan, I borrowed a digicam from the same aunt and took pictures. A lot of people including myself, saw a bit of potential from my photos... come 2008 I bought my very first digicam: a Nikon D40 DSLR. Yes, I never had a digicam ever, not even those point-and-shoot ones. And the rest, as they say, is history.

~Cheers!~

Starters...

Good day peeps!

Well, Blogspot says I should create a new blog now... and so I did. LOL. Anyway, I decided to sign up for this blog site because I plan to use it as a "photo blog" since I do photography on the side. That's aside from the fact that I fancy writing stuff as well (I used to write some blogs in my Multiply site).

Most, if not all, image hosting sites I use are not really designed so much to include too much talking haha! So from here on, I will be posting blogs that I feel like sharing to the rest of the world. As I have mentioned, I plan to use this as a photo blog, so most of the stuff I'll put in here will be more about my photography escapades... with pictures of course.

Alright, on with my thinking hat so I can start filling up this crappy blog site of mine with some interesting stuff haha! Please do check back in here later!

~Cheers!~
